How can Ph.D. students become better mentors while building connections across disciplines? Sindia Jiménez-Rivera, Ph.D., an assistant professor in UF’s Department of Engineering Education, created the Ph.D. Research and Interdisciplinary Mentoring Experience (PRIME) to help doctoral students develop mentoring skills and support undergraduate researchers.

The program’s inaugural cohort brought together 15 Ph.D. students from across the university for mentoring training, interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development. PRIME also gives students an opportunity to translate research on mentoring, identity and student persistence into practice.
