The Master of Science in Engineering Education prepares students to bridge engineering and educational practice. Through training in educational research, evidence-based pedagogy, and engineering learning, students gain the skills to teach, design curriculum, and conduct scholarly research in engineering education. The program offers both thesis and non-thesis pathways.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- B.S. in a STEM-related field
- B.S. in another discipline and related STEM experience
- Bachelor’s degree and experience teaching a STEM subject
Additional Requirements
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 (per UF Graduate School)
- No GRE required
- TOEFL required for international applicants, if applicable
Curriculum
Core Courses
Non-Thesis Option
- EGS 6050: Foundations in Engineering Education (3 credits)
- EGS 6054: Cognition, Learning, and Pedagogy in Engineering Education (3 credits)
- EGS 6051: Instructional Design in Engineering Education (3 credits)
Thesis Option
Includes all three non-thesis core courses plus:
- EGS 6020: Research Design in Engineering Education (3 credits)
- EGS 6012: Research Methods in Engineering Education (3 credits)
Electives
Non-Thesis Option
- 21 credits of Engineering Education–related electives
- Must be approved by the graduate coordinator
Thesis Option
- 9 credits of graduate coursework aligned with the student’s research topic or career goals
Graduation Requirements
Non-Thesis Option
Completion of a comprehensive examination (0 credits), which may include:
- Teaching a class session
- Writing a policy position paper
- Writing a literature review
- Other approved assessments
Thesis Option
- 6 credits of EGS 6971 – Research for Master’s Thesis
- Written thesis and successful oral defense
